City Center in the Piazza del Duomo and Milan Cathedral

There are many cathedrals in Italy that means you will find several “Piazza del Duomos” which translates to plaza of the cathedral. The most known Piazza del Duomo is in Milan, which serves as the city center in both geographical location and cultural significance to the city.

The Piazzo del Duomo of Milan gets its name from the Milan Cathedral located right in the plaza. Surrounding this plaza are some of the city’s most important buildings, attractions, and shopping. This draws both locals and tourist alike making it the most important location in Milan.

The Piazzo del Duomo will be one of your main destinations in Milan. The plaza is the site of many most popular tourist stops in the City. This includes a statue of King Victor Emmanuel II of Italy, Milan Cathedral, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, and Royal Palace of Milan, to name a few.

All of these sites have historical significance to the city and are a representation of culture in Italy.

After being built, the statue of Victor Emmanuel II was placed here to signal the plaza’s completion.

The Milan Cathedral is one of the most important sites in Milan for tourists. The cathedral, also known as Duomo di Milano, is located in the Piazza del Duomo, giving the plaza its name.

The Milan Cathedral is one of the largest cathedrals in the world. A notable fact of the cathedral is its construction. Construction on the cathedral lasted over 600 years and with its complexity, it is still being updated and reconstructed today. Over its span of being built, the Milan Cathedral has features influenced by a variety of styles. This is thanks to foreign architects working on the cathedral.

As stunning as the marble exterior is of the Milan Cathedral, the interior is just as elaborate. Throughout the cathedral you will find numerous monuments, artworks, and stained glass windows.

About 200 statues decorate the cathedral atop the many spires. To get the best view of these statues, visitors are allowed access to the cathedrals roof. In addition to seeing up close details, on a clear day you have an amazing view of Milan as well as the Alps in the backdrop.

As with many cathedrals in Italy, appropriate dress is required in order to gain access inside

Buy from the locals at Damnoen Saduak Floating Market

Who doesn't know about the floating market in Thailand? For sure you have heard of it at least once in your lifetime! This is one of their most popular site and activity! Imagine shopping while traversing a small body of water riding a boat? Ahhh, it's surely going to be a unique and fun experience!

For one of the most unique shopping experiences of your life, head over to the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. The world-famous floating market is located 100 kilometers west of the city of Bangkok, and is well worth a visit as you will get a glimpse of a traditional way of life that has since become close to extinct in Thailand. The floating market takes place every morning from 5am-12pm, and the canal becomes crowded with vendors, shoppers and tourists haggling for the best price.

The vendors sell anything you’d find in a regular market including produce, spices, Thai dishes, and souvenirs. However, rather than selling them from stalls, these vendors sell these from small wooden boats docked alongside the canal. It’s quite an experience to rent a boat, paddle down the canal and stop along various boats to buy your goods. The vendors are typically sweet old Thai women who come to the market day in and day out to sell their product. Each boat is filled to the brim with colorful friends and vegetables, and the air is filled with the delicious smell of Thai food cooking.

The best time to get to the floating market is around 7am, as the tourist crowd rolls in around 9am and that’s when the canal turns into a traffic jam crowded with boats. The cost to rent a boat varies depending on whether you want a simple rowboat or a motorboat. For a rowboat and paddles, expect to pay around 250 Baht, while a motorboat typically will cost you 700 Baht.

Never miss this on your trip to Thailand!

Worth Spending Activities in Italy

Learn All About Italian Painter, Giorgio de Chirico

When you think about famous Italian painters, your mind will probably wander back to the Baroque and Renaissance periods of art, but Italy has also produced some very fine contemporary artists, including the likes of Giorgio de Chirico, and you can learn all about his life and see some of his works at the Giorgio de Chirico House Museum in Rome, so called because the artist and his wife lived there for thirty years before he died.

Try Delicious Wines at the Antinori Winery

It is no secret that Italians know more than a thing or two about creating stellar wine, and while you’re in the country you should sip as much as you can (without destroying your liver or turning into a drunk). In fact, the selection of wines can be somewhat overwhelming, and that’s why we would recommend a trip to the Antinori Winery, surrounded by the hills of Chianti, where you’ll be looked after, and you’ll be guided through wine tastings in a stunning setting.

Eat in the Best Pizzeria on the Planet

When you think of Italian food, one of the first dishes you are likely to think of is pizza. And who could blame you? It is, after all, one of the most delicious and popular foods on the face of the planet. We honestly could have filled this guide with the 101 coolest places to eat pizza in Italy, but we have restrained ourselves to give you our number one choice, with is a traditional pizzeria called Di Matteo in Naples. You can expect thin and crispy crusts, tomato sauce that is bursting full of flavour, and the freshest buffalo mozzarella.

Take in the View of Venice From the Campanile

For anyone arriving to Venice by sea, the tower of the Campanile of St Mark’s is the first thing that would be seen. This bell tower is 99 metres tall, and you can take an elevator right to the top of the tower, where you will reach the observation deck. There is a cost attached to doing this, but it’s well worth it for the exceptional view that you’ll have across the whole of the city.

Get Close to Sea Life in the Aquarium of Genoa

A great deal of Italy is surrounded by water, and this means that you can find plenty of interesting marine life off the coast. But if you don’t fancy getting your feet wet you can still see the sea creatures of Italy by visiting the country’s largest aquarium, the Aquarium of Genoa. With 15,000 animals inside, there is plenty to explore for the whole family. You can feel the grandeur of the sharks, say hi to the cute penguins, be amazed by the manatees, and more.
