Safe Foreign Taxi Tips: Taking Taxis in Latin America

When in Latin America, it is not recommended that you call for taxi in the streets. What you need to do is to phone a taxi service in advance and wait for it to park in front of the establishment you are staying in before you step outside the establishment. Colombians actually have more faith for drivers who are working in taxi services as they have undergone background check. Plus, it is also very easy for them to be tracked so there are less chances that they will do anything wrong.

ñ  Sit at the back.

If you are one of those passengers who like sitting at the back of the taxi, then you are doing one thing right already. When you sit at the back, you are less visible. Additionally, the exits of the taxi is a lot accessible for you so you can easily get out when unfortunate things happen.

ñ  Close the windows.

Eve if you are tempted to roll the windows down to catch fresh air, it is recommended that you close the windows for safety purposes. When your windows are rolled down, you are an easy target for the thieves as they can just easily reach out and grab your bag, necklace, wallet, phone and the likes. This is most especially true if the taxi stopped at the traffic light. Do not do the thieves a favor by keeping your windows down.
