Telltale Signs That you Are Staying in A Bad Hostel



If you wish to save money on your travel, then many people would surely recommend staying in a hostel. While such establishments are not as posh and luxurious as hotels, this is the next best accommodation option if you wish to get value for your money.

However, you must understand the fact that not all hostels are good. There are still some hostels out there who will not bring you bang fr your buck. To help you avoid staying in those bad hostels, here are some telltale signs of a bad hostel that you should look out for:

ñ  Bed bugs
Well, there is no need to expound on this very annoying travel problem. If your hostel has bedbugs in it, leave right away.
ñ  Unreliable staff
There are some hostels which have poor service. Did you ask for room service or house keeping but the staff did not go into your room until 2 hours later? If you have experienced this, then you are in a bad hostel. Waiting for twenty to thirty minutes for a request is okay but if it goes beyond one hour, then it is time for you to leave.
ñ  Poor cleaning schedule
If your bedroom or bathroom is cleaned just once daily, that is one sign that the hostel that you are staying in is not a good one. Keep in mind that you will share your bathroom with another people. One time bathroom cleaning is okay if there are only 10 guests in the hostel but it will not suffice if there are more than 30 people in the hostel.
ñ  Noise
This is actually the worst but very obvious sign of a bad hostel. Sadly, this is also one of the most common problems that you will encounter when staying in a hostel. Some of the hostel stayers actually try very hard to create a party vibe inside the hostel that they forget to think about the rest and relaxation of other people in the hostel.

The key to staying in hostels is to book a hostel for just a night. This is so that you can be able to evaluate if the hostel is good or not. If the hostel is worth the fee, then go add more nights but if not, then you can try relocating to another accommodation without wasting any money.


Choosing a good hostel do not have to be difficult. There are many tips and tricks provided by experienced travellers on how to avoid staying at bad hostels.
