What Experienced Travelers have to Say to Novices

There are many stories about travelling. Some are fun, while others are total disaster. If you ever heard an old man saying something like "I have already crossed the road you are crossing." Listen carefully because he is stating fact. However, you must always think outside the box. There is a great possibility that he is going beyond what he said. Experienced travelers have so much to share to novices. Here are few of the most important ones.

Ø  It is not about the destination, but the journey.
Dear novice travelers, travel is not about where you are going to but how you get there. Appreciate the road and the mountains you see along the way. If you are on your own vehicle, you may want stop on beautiful sceneries and take photos. You must enjoy the ride and all the stops for it makes you love your vacation more. It gives meaning to your trip a sort of essence that will definitely leave a smile of your lips.

Ø  Nothing truly goes flawless.
Remember that every journey will have bumps. Preparation and research is the key to a less hassle trip. Pack your bags ahead of time and think for a couple of times what things you could have forgotten. Be flexible and optimistic if mishaps happen.

Ø  Extreme is an inch beyond your limitations.
For all those adventure seekers, be reminded that extreme is something that will push you on your boundaries and a bit more. You must know how to calculate risks, try something that will have your heart skip a bit not something that will cease its beating. Make your travel time worthwhile by getting out of your comfort zone and not your safe zone.

Ø  Socialize with the locals.
Try starting conversations with the locals; you would be surprised with them having a lot to say. Do not be afraid to make friends. They prefer friendly tourists and they will reciprocate with warmth. Socializing with the locals will lead to a better relationship and mutual respect. Remember that their place is your home for a while so treat them as good neighbors.

Ø  Open your mind on what is bizarre and taboo.
It is inevitable that you will encounter their culture so be prepared for it. Brace yourself to witness something different. Travel is not for squeamish people. Respect what they do. You do not have to acquire or try their customs, just respect and never say anything against them. These are traditions that define the locals of your destination, do not step on it or offend them in any way.

Ø  Give back as you receive.
As you travel, you will receive different favors from the people you will meet along the way. Some will give you food and water, while others will let you pee on their toilet. These are small things but do not take them for granted. Reciprocate their kindness. You can start by a simple thank you or give them little stuffs as a sign of friendship. Help a child cross the street or just smile. Small gestures can do so much.

These are what you should remember as a newbie in travelling. There are other important stuffs but you will learn them along the way. Although experienced travelers can teach you a lot of things, your footprints will always lead you to new and innovative learning.
